Weekend of Ups and Downs for 3rds!!
On Saturday the CACC 3rd xi made their first appearance at UUJ against a lurgan side that has easily beaten the 3s earlier in the season.
the 3rds were able to field a very strong side and were boosted by the return of Andrew Palmer and after a 2 year hiatus Andrew Forbes.
The 3s lost the toss and lurgan decided to bat and were able to get off to a solid start with no wickets falling in the opening exchanges in fact it wasn’t until young debutant, Ollie Scott, came into the attack and immediately he produced deliveries that the lurgan team were struggling to keep out one of those deliveries brought about his first , one of many I reckon, wicket for CACC 3s this helped to settle the bowling down and wickets started to tumble with Ollie taking another wicket and Andrew forbes also picking up 2 wickets. the score had reached 96 for 5 when the skipper entered the fray and a burst of 4 for 10 helped clean up the lurgan tail and leave Cacc with only 116 to get, a total well below average on the pitch. the result was never in doubt after the CACC openers of forbes and palmer got the team off to a steady start and despite losing 2 quick wickets , latham and palmer, forbes was joined by Adam Wilson and the guys proceeded to put Lurgan to the sword with both batsmen unbeaten at the end as Andrew Forbes was able to complete a very well deserved half century.
Result CACC WIN BY 6 WICKETS
Sunday was a complete change to the previous performance and through some awful shot selection, and a general apathy CACC 3s were bundled out for just over 50 which considering the previous day’s performace was well short of acceptable. Despite some good bowling and catching North Down 3s were reduced to 35 for 4 however it was never going to be enough and North Down ran out as comfortable winners
Result North Down 3s win by 6 wickets
