Under 13 Match Report

Cliftonville Academy U13 opened their season with a home game against Carrickfergus. Captain Adam Orr lost the toss and Carrick opted to bat first. CACC started superbly as Matthew Williamson struck in the first over removing one of the Carrick openers. Harry Salt also took a wicket in his first over although the rest of the innings was marred by some inconsistent line and length which allowed Carrick to post 86 for 2 after 20 overs.

CACC lost opener Matthew McLaughlan early in the chase. CACC rallied through Adam McCandless, Matt Williamson and Adam Orr who all struck boundaries. Rex Henderson anchored the innings top scoring with 22 including two fours and a six in the penultimate over leaving CACC needing 7 to win. Haydn Dillon Wright picked of some crucial singles leaving CACC needing 2 off the final delivery. Unfortunately the Carrick bowler held his nerve taking a wicket off the final delivery leaving CACC short by one run.

This was an exciting start to the season. Several players made their debuts tonight and will have learnt an awful lot. The next game for the U13 is on Wednesday night against Laurelvale in the cup.
